    BISMUTH (NL)
    Bismuth is a two piece band raised in January 2012 consisting of Yuri Landman & producer/multi-instrumentalist Arnold van de Velde. The duo plays music on a collection of Landmans string instruments, electric amplified metal percussion, effect pedals, motor instruments and DIY soldered electronics.
    The result is a rhythmic mixture of experimental noise rock, dance and gamelan music.
    This two-piece makes difficult music danceable. So, don’t expect soundscapes, drones, nor rock or pop music. Although sound artists are mainly busy creating soundscapes these guys rock! Most instruments consist of wood, metal bars, strings and guitar pickups, but they don’t sound anything conventional in any way.
    Their homebuilt experimental instruments give us radically danceable beats, experimental grooves and free improvisation on top. All is created by sound on sounds looping, making clicks, bleeps and riffs.

    History:
    It starts in 2001, when Yuri Landman thought about a solutions for “prepared guitars” –a technique often aplied by Sonic Youth to create different sounds. In 2006 he invented the Moodswinger (later Homeswinger, for home build projects). This was the start of a ongoing career in making experimental instruments.
    So, Yuri made all these instruments. Cool! Doing workshops all around the world, he was invited by Arnold van de Velde and Rene van Lien (both Neon Rainbows, At No Bikini Beach and ex-Feverdream) record some songs in their studio in Rotterdam. While working on the recordings Arnold and Rene were often asked to join Yuri many times as a solid part of the group performances. They joined Yuri in the UK, France and Holland for serveral important shows.
    After doing many group performances with more than 15 people, it was time to make thing more simple. No more carrying 10 guitaramps, 2 drumkits and a bunch of effect pedals!
    Yuri asked Arnold to join him for a show on a Subbacultcha side shows at Eurosonic/Noorderslag.

    MSHR is the solo audio/visual project of Brenna Murphy, known also for her work with the Oregon Painting Society collective and her other music project Slaves. Using homemade electronics, weirded programming and improvised structures, MSHR walks into the fractal mind, embracing the unending symmetry of the impossible, shape-shifting rhythms and digital collage. ‘Two-dimensional chant’ of the highest order!

    HELVED RÜM (Paris)
    HELVED RÜM is a duo of improvised / electroacoustic music formed by drummer Julien Chamla and electroacoustician Simon Henocq. The device is very simple, a microphone stands above the drums and the sounds are transformed by a real time processing. This is not only a way to transfigure the frictions, screeching and all kinds of sounds developped on the drums, but this formula also allows a strong and unusual interplay between the two musicians. HELVED RÜM’s music goes from very organic and animalistic feelings to a massive and industrial energy. Within free improvisation they are exploring a high range of dynamics and a multiplicity of sounds and densities.

    LITTLE ANNIE & BABY DEE (Cleveland/New York)
    Little Annie aka Annie ‘Anxiety’ Bandez har byggt en diger och ojämförbar meritlista under sin drygt trettioåriga karriär, inledningsvis som sångerska i Annie and the Asexuals i New York, vidare till London i början av 80-talet där hon mottogs av, och samarbetade med, så inflytelserika artister som Crass, Coil och Nurse With Wound. Efter detta följde en tid på Adrian Sherwoods On-U Sound-etikett där hon blandade dub, spoken word och postpunk på ett antal släpp. Under 2000-talet har hon släppt ett antal album på David Tibets (Current 93) label Durtro i samarbete med Antony Hegarty (Antony and the Johnsons), Joe Buedenholzer (Backworld) och Mr. Paul Wallfisch. Stilen på dessa leder ner till kabaretscener i rökiga källarlokaler där Little Annies patinerade stämma hör hemma.
    Baby Dee har en lika brokig bakgrund som klassiskt tränad harpist, performancekonstnär, gatuartist uppflugen på en tvåmeters trehjuling och organist i katolska kyrkan i Bronx. Under nittiotalet blev hon vän med Antony Hegarty och de började samarbeta, Baby Dee spelade harpa på Antony and the Johnsons debutalbum 1998. Baby Dee gav Antony ett antal låtar att spela in, men istället blev de grunden till Baby Dees första soloskivor på Durtro. Under denna tid turnerade hon också som harpist och pianist i Current 93. Mot slutet av 2000-talet, efter ett antal olyckliga händelser, har hon spelat in skivor producerade av bl a Will Oldham (Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy), Matt Sweeny (Chavez/Zwan) och Andrew W.K. Baby Dees sånger sträcker sig från smäktande olyckligt sentimentala kärleksballader till ekivoka kupletter, och har ett stort antal fans. I NYC anordnas återkommande ”We Sing Baby Dee”-kvällar där hennes material tolkas av olika artister.
    2011, efter att ha pratat en lång tid om ett samarbete, släppte Little Annie och Baby Dee sitt första album tillsammans, ”State Of Grace” med Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy gästande på titelspåret. Musiken på skivan är en perfekt sammansmältning av de artisternas starka personligheter och har fått ett varmt mottagande av såväl kritiker som publik. Nu får vi chansen att njuta av detta samarbete på Stora Teatern!

    Anders Lauge Meldgaard: A founding member of the yoyooyoy collective, which also includes Yoke & Yohs, Lights People, Johns Lunds, Stof, Havens Fugle, and other projects. He is part of Slütspürt, co-founder of the eclectic big band Den Nørrejyske Ø’s Stororkester For Opløst Mønster Musik and has performed at the Roskilde Festival, Jazzjuice Festival, Transmediale Festival and toured Europe, USA and Japan. In 2010 Meldgaard released, as his solo project Frisk Frugt, the album “Dansktoppen møder Burkina Faso i det himmelblå rum hvor solen bor, suite” leading to great critical and audience acclaim, including a nomination for the Nordic Music Prize in 2011. His latest release is ”Musik for seks elektriske guitarer”, released on LP in late 2012.

    Muneomi Senju: Former member of legendary Japanese band Boredoms, including the period of the 2007 Europe tour, Senju is also an experienced solo performer and current member of PARA, led by ex-Boredoms guitarist Seiichi Yamamoto. Senju was also part of the eccentric pop group Urichipangoon and has performed with Otomo Yoshihide, Merzbow, Damo Suzuki, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, DoraVideo, as well as many other key members of the Japanese music scene.

    Iku Sakan: Experimental sound performer, improvisor and DJ from Osaka, Japan currently based in Berlin, Germany. Since 2009, he has performed in Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, UK, Mexico, Malaysia, China & Japan, including important festivals in Europe as a member of several bands, such as All Tomorrows Parties in UK (with Maher Shalal Hash Baz) and Avantgard Festival in Germany (organised by Krautrock legends Faust, with Meeting of the Spirits). Iku Sakan explores music as ‘Myth-Science’ by combining computer processing, prepared recordings with a range of sounding objects (such as mini-masserger, measure & oscilator). He has collaborated, played with Frisk Frugt, Michael Northam, Muneomi Senju, Chie Mukai, Butchy Fuego, Kakawaka and others.

     
    Musik For Seks Elektriske Guitarer: The idea for the guitar sextet sprung while Meldgaard was traveling through Mali and Burkina Faso and encountering the local music. Much impressed by the simplicity, discipline and tightly knit collaboration of the musicians he witnessed, Meldgaard decided to explore a similar strategy for the electric guitar. The result takes minimal compositions, based on extended repetition and microscopic – yet danceable – grooves, as a departure point for climactic improvisations. Invoking, perhaps, as much the minimalism of Steve Reich as the cathartic rhythms of Konono No. 1, approaching even progressive psychedelia.
    “Music For Six Electric Guitars” premiered at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival in 2010 and has since toured both Japan and Germany, as well as giving various appearances in Denmark. Gathering a team of highly respected guitarists from the Danish avant-garde and rock scenes, Meldgaards music is interpreted by a towering amount of talent from groups such as Pinkunoizu, Kalle del Hey, Scataw, Skammens Vogn, Joy L, Lily Electric, Shiggajon and others.

    King Ayisoba (Ghana)
    This is the traditional kologo music from the Upper East Region of Ghana brought with the energy and flavor of the twenty first century. King Ayisoba sings in Fra Fra, Twi and in English and is a big star in Ghana. There is a whole new scene now starting after King Ayisoba introduced the super catchy kologo beats to the bigger audiences in Ghana and abroad. The kologo is a two string guitar with a calabash gourd resonator, it is rhythmic and melodic at the same time. Ayisoba is bringing dancer, backing singer and kalimba player Ras Asua on this tour, dancing the traditional Frafra dia and kologo dances from the area of Bongo in Northern Ghana. The dance consists of very high jumbs and originates from hunting rituals.

    Traditionaly kologo performances occur at local bars, weddings, funerals, festivals or spontaneous jams on the street. Today we will see the force and spirit here, around the corner, learn wise lessons and dig up the future.
